Over the summer, Year 7 pupils were tasked with challenges from the English, Maths and Science departments to prepare them for the term ahead.

Assistant Head of Science, Miss Nouraghaeii, was very impressed with the pupils’ science work and wanted to share some of it with the rest of us.

Miss Nouraghaeii chose some of the best cell models that stood out and where pupils had been particularly creative with their materials.

Josh said: “I didn’t know anything about cells before I did this so I learnt a lot! I made a plant cell and I enjoyed doing it.”

Jacob said: “I had to use some of my sister’s crafts at home to make my cell as I ran out of items but it helps you learn all about biology.”

Miss Nouraghaeii commented, “The cell models were some of the best we've seen; I can tell we have some top scientists here already!  I was very impressed with their work.  The summer booklet covered units that pupils will learn more about in Year 7 so they have put themselves ahead of the game.

"So far this half term the Year 7s have completed an introduction to Science; the students have been learning how to think scientifically, we have looked at the apparatus they will use over the next few years, and discussed the hazards and control measures when working in a lab.”

Fantastic work from Josh B, Chloe R, Evie S, Freya Y, Jess D, Ezra H, Jacob P, Charlie W and Callum G-V who were all awarded achievement points as a reward for their hard work.  Well done to all the Year 7 pupils that completed the summer tasks.

TASK:  Get Ready for Biology

Cells are the building blocks of all living things.  Make a model or create a presentation about cells.  You can choose any type of animal or plant cell.
