Image of Year 10 Girls Raise Funds to Protect Endangered Tigers

A group of Year 10 pupils have taken action to support endangered wild cats by organising a hugely successful bake sale in aid of Panthera, an international charity dedicated to the conservation of the world’s big cat species.

Lily,  Amelia, Megan, Reese,  Ria,  Catherine and Georgia spent the past few weeks learning about the threats facing tigers and felt compelled to raise awareness within the school community. They created an informative PowerPoint presentation explaining why conservation is so important and highlighting the alarming decline of wild tiger populations.

In their research, the girls discovered that three tiger subspecies have already become extinct and that the remaining six are all classified as endangered. With only around 5,000 tigers left in the wild, they wanted to take positive action to support organisations working to protect these magnificent animals.

On Wednesday, the group held their bake sale at breaktime, offering a delicious assortment of cakes and treats. The event drew plenty of eager customers and proved to be a tremendous success, raising a fantastic £61.50 for Panthera.

The girls also shared some fun facts.  Did you know:

  • A tiger’s roar can be heard up to 3km away!

  • No two tigers have the same stripes – each pattern is completely unique.

All proceeds will be donated directly to Panthera, supporting the charity’s work to restore tiger habitats, protect key populations and help increase tiger numbers in the wild.

Well done to the whole team for their enthusiasm, initiative and dedication to a worthy cause.
