On Thursday, 7 May, 16 of our Year 8 girls took part in an exciting Girls’ Leadership Course during the school day at Priory, delivered through the Lancashire Cricket Foundation.
The leadership course is part of the England & Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) commitment to making cricket a gender‑balanced sport and providing girls with opportunities to develop both on and off the pitch. The session focused on introducing students to leadership roles within cricket and helping them build confidence, communication, and teamwork skills.
Throughout the day, the girls were involved in a range of practical activities, including leading warm‑ups, learning how to score matches, developing umpiring skills, and supporting the delivery of cricket sessions. These activities gave the students a new perspective on the sport and highlighted the many different ways they can stay involved beyond just playing.
The programme also links to the ECB’s wider girls’ pathway, which includes initiatives such as All Stars Cricket and Dynamos Cricket, and aims to inspire girls to take on future leadership roles while developing important life skills.
Mrs Bullock, PE Teacher and Head of Year 8, said, “All students represented the school brilliantly and should be extremely proud of their engagement, enthusiasm, and willingness to step into leadership roles. We are delighted to support opportunities like this and look forward to offering more leadership experiences in the future.
