Just before the Easter holidays a group of students went on an fun-packed performing arts trip.

Day 1

Students arrived bright-eyed and bushy-tailed ready for an exciting three days away.

First stop, a musical theatre workshop based on Hadestown. Students got to meet theatre professionals from the show where they learnt one of the songs and a dance routine from the musical itself. This gave students a real insight into what it’s like to work in the industry and the amount of stamina needed for such roles.

We then settled down to a lovely meal at Hard Rock Café which everyone enjoyed, and was much needed! After this we headed for the Lyric Theatre where we watched Hadestown - It was AMAZING! This time even Mr Taylor could follow the storyline!

This musical is slightly different to the norm as the orchestra is on stage as part of the action which meant students were not just taking in the acting but also the musical element of it too.

Day 2

Well, after such a long day yesterday we were all relieved to get a lie-in and a nice hot breakfast.

We boarded the coach - first stop, the Science Museum. Students went off exploring and interacting with everything while some of us had a good laugh at making Mr Taylor pose for pictures but in fact we were filming him!

Next stop, lunch down by the river where unfortunately Mr Taylor had a near accident with some Greek food.

Once everyone’s bellies were full we went off to the Tate Modern to look at the artwork. One room really caught some people’s eyes!

After a day of education and culture we headed off to stuff our faces at Pizza Hut - I’ve never seen so many pizzas, boy these students can eat!

Now off to the Royal Albert Hall. We were meant to be driven there but we announced that we were going to see the sights and walked instead. What we didn’t tell the students was that the walk would be about 25 minutes so there was a lot of “Where are we going? Are we nearly there yet? How much further?“.
Day 2 (Continued)

After burning off the copious amounts of pizza we arrived at the Royal Albert Hall. We all got our dancing shoes on and boogied the night away with an evening of Motown, What a night to remember! We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It truly was a magical night and everyone came away feeling extremely happy. It was a evening we will never forget.

Day 3

After two fun-packed days, singing and dancing, and lots of laughs, we ended the three days with a leisurely shopping trip. This was a pleasant, relaxing end to our holiday.

Once clothes had been bought, it was homeward bound. What should have been a quiet ride home unfortunately ended with a sickness bug sweeping through the bus. Staff and students were ill which is not the ending we wanted to an amazing trip.

I want to say a big thank you to the staff who gave up their time to help with the trip - you all helped everything to run smoothly, especially Mr Taylor for being on sickbag duty!

Thank you to all the students; it was a pleasure to take you on a trip that gave us all so many memories. I was so proud of your theatre etiquette, you were such advocates for yourselves and our school.

Watch out for details of the next Performing Arts residential trip!
