Here's what our Cool Readers Club is all about...

These are our reading stars put forward by their English teacher.  We interview them about their current book, what they like reading about and what they like to do when they’re not reading.  Introducing Leon..

Leon  has found a number of new hobbies – reading and baking!

The Year 9 has been selected as one of Mrs Gidden’s Cool Readers after finding a love of reading but he was also keen to emphasise a talent for baking, he found during lockdown.

“I am reading one of the Ultimate Football Heroes books about Bruno Fernandes by Matt and Tom Oldfield," said Leon.

“I support Manchester United so he is one of my team and it’s interesting as it tells you about his life before football and how his football career has developed.

“There are books on a number of Manchester United players in our library in the Ultimate Football Heroes collection.

“I also like funny books. I have enjoyed the David Walliams books because they are funny and enjoyed Roald Dahl books ‘The Twits’ and ‘Danny Champion of the World.’

“I have been taking part in the Accelerated Reader programme, I do like the tests at the end of the books and getting rewards when you do well!”

Leon plays football for Lostock Hall as left back and also enjoys table tennis and tennis but he has found a new talent.

“I hadn’t baked a lot before lockdown but I started doing it and selling cakes, such as rocky roads and brownies, for charity.

“I found it was something I enjoy doing and people seemed to like my cakes as they kept coming back! I would love to own a bakery in the future.”

Mrs Gidden added, "Leon is a real character and is into all sorts of hobbies - I don't know how he finds the time for all of them! Leon likes a certain type of book but will step outside his comfort zone to find a new favourite which is a lesson everyone can learn.  There's a book for everyone - like Goldilocks you just have to find one that's just right!"
