Penwortham Town FC
Penwortham Town F.C. was formed in 1977 and became a founder member of each of the three main leagues for developing young footballers in the local area:
Mid Lancashire Colts (U7s – U10s) Junior Football League
Central Lancashire Junior (U11s – U16s) Football League
Lancashire Evening Post Youth (17 – 18) League
We are one of the biggest and oldest amateur Football Clubs in Preston. We have grown to our present day size of 15 teams covering all age groups from Under 7s to adults, providing football for approximately 300 players. We provide an opportunity for the children from the local area to play football in an organised and safe environment. In addition to our Club-School link with Priory Sports & Technology College, we are based in the heart of the community at the Vernon Carus Sports Ground, Factory Lane, Penwortham.
Our Club became a Football Association (FA) Chartered Standard Club in 2006. This is basically the bench-mark standard the national FA set for all grassroots football clubs. We were immensely proud and honoured to have been awarded the FA Charter Standard Club of the Year for Lancashire in 2010. The Lancashire Football Association nominated our Club for this regional award in recognition of the work we had done towards implementing and promoting the ethos of the FA Charter Standard. This was achieved by creating opportunities for players, of all ages, to play football and for encouraging our Team Managers and Coaches to continuously improve their coaching qualifications and experience, thereby, allowing them to deliver the best coaching their ability allows. However, this is just the means to an end, the end goal in this case is to enable our players to achieve their full potential.
We also encourage our young players to expand their knowledge and skills of the game (by becoming Referees, Junior Football/Sports Leaders, etc) and to improve themselves as individuals as well as players.
We have an extremely well structured Club consisting of:
- 10 person Committee
- 22 FA Level 1 Football Coaches
- 2 FA Level 2 Football Coaches
- 3 FA Youth (U7s – U11s) Football Coaches
- 1 FA Level 1 Goalkeeper Coach
- A Coach Mentor
We have an aspiration to make our Club one of the best run Charter Standard Clubs. In order to achieve this aspiration, we have a well defined structure to support all our teams from U7s through to adults. Each 'section' (i.e. Colts, Juniors and 'Youth & Adults') has a dedicated Secretary with a wealth of local football knowledge, thereby providing all Club members, especially new ones, with invaluable help and support.
Away from the competing side of the Club, we have a long standing link to Derian House (a local Children's Hospice) as our preferred charity. To date we have raised over £3,600 for this worthwhile cause thereby helping children less fortunate than the ones playing for our teams!
The following briefly identifies our highlights over the past few years:
2009 - Nominated by the LFA to host McDonalds Football Festival, as a reward for promoting the ethos of the Charter Standard. This included a personal appearance by Sir Geoff Hurst and the Charity Shield.
2009 - Our U10s team (2009-10) was invited by McDonalds to represent the LFA at their National Football Festival at Wembley Stadium.
2011 - Two players from our U10s team (2010-11) were invited by McDonalds to be captain escorts and led the teams out at the U21 England v Iceland International at Deepdale.
2011 - Our U9s team (2010-11) was invited by McDonalds to their grassroots football publicity photoshoot.
2011 - Received a grant from the Football Foundation to help further the development of our new U7s teams over the next 3 seasons.
